Agricultural Management Tour to Polish Vegetable Production

Contemporary vegetable production in Poland combines a long tradition with a modern approach by applying new technologies, specialising farm production and introducing new and efficient vegetable varieties for sowing. In 2013, there were 90 thousand agricultural farms that cultivated ground vegetables and 12 thousand farms that cultivated vegetables under cover. The average ground vegetables cultivation area
reached 1,4 ha, whereas for vegetables under cover – 0,5 ha.

Agricultural farms producing ground vegetables are dispersed all over Poland, but the commodity production is run mainly in the area of Mazovian, Greater Poland, Lesser Poland, Łódź and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeships. The ground vegetable cultivation area in Poland is now decreasing – it shrank from
208 thousand ha to 172 thousand ha, that is by 17%, in 2004-2014.

In 2004-2014, the annual national production of vegetable reached from 4,9 million tonnes to 5,6 million tonnes, which makes Poland the third/fourth vegetable producer in the European Union. 9 % of vegetable harvest in the European Union comes from the Polish vegetable production. Poland is the European leader in carrot and red beet harvesting. It comes in second place (following Romania), and in 11th place worldwide, in cabbage production. Poland is also included on the list of the biggest European producers of cucumbers
and onions.

Day 1

Day 1 | Warsaw ( / / D ) 

— Arrival to Warsaw.
— All tour members meet with the tour guide and be transferred by coach to the city centre.
— This day enjoy Warsaw city tour taking in many well-known landmarks.
— Feel the culture of Poland at authentic Polish restaurant “Bazyliszek ” with national cuisine.

Day 2

Day 2 | Poznan (B/L/D ) 

07:00 — Breakfast at the hotel
08:00 — Check out of the hotel.
09:00 — After breakfast visit group of companies founded on the basis of five farms, where the tradition of vegetable production goes back three generations. Vegetable production devoted 230 hectares. The largest space being used to manufacture 100 hectares of carrots, onions 55ha, 30ha iceberg lettuce, broccoli 30ha and sugar beet 15ha.
11:00 — Transfer to another vegetable farm.
12:00 — Lunch at the restaurant.
13:00 — After lunch, on the way to Poznan visit vegetable farm producing on 100ha of land carrots,
celery, parsley, onion, beetroot, broccoli, cabbage, leeks, and others.
15:00 — Continue trip to Poznan.
19:00 — Check in the hotel.
20:00 — Enjoy tasty dinner at the restaurant.

Day 3

Day 3 | Opole (B/L/D ) 

07:00 — Breakfast at the hotel
08:00 — Check out of the hotel.
09:00 — This morning after breakfast and check out of the hotel meet with the representative of Polish Association of Asparagus Producers.
10:00 — Continue journey to Wroclaw.
13:00 — Lunch at the restaurant “Restauracja Brajt”.
14:00 — After lunch enjoy Wroclaw city tour.
17:00 — After city tour we travel to the farm specialising in the cultivation and processing of asparagus since the early 90s. With this know-how the farm have been farming an area of approx. 400
hectares in Poland and producing homogeneous top-quality asparagus for the European market since 2007. Fields located near Olawa in Lower Silesia, approximately 30 km north -east of Wroclaw. The terrain in that region has the ideal nutritional make -up for the farming of asparagus. Thanks to the use of efficient and environmentally-sound irrigation methods the farm is able to maximise the potential of the plants and control the quality of the asparagus. They use the most up-to-date farming methods and this means that their trained pickers can harvest the asparagus from the beginning of April to the end of June.
18:00 — Continue trip to Opole.
19:00 — Check in the hotel.
20:00 — The day will be finished at the Polish restaurant “Karczma Opolska Strzecha” for you taste

Day 4

Day 4 | Warsaw (B/L/ ) 

07:00 — Breakfast at the hotel
08:00 — Check out of the hotel. Depart to the farm cultivating asparagus and onion.
09:00 — Visiting vegetable farm. Currently the farm cultivate asparagus on the total area of about 60 ha, and onion on about 70 ha. The farm is capable of producing about 300-360 tonnes of asparagus and more than 3000 tonnes of onion per annum. Company obtained Global G.A.P. (Eurepgap) certificate issued by TÜV Nord Group.
11:00 — Transfer to Warsaw airport.

— Departure.
